Niffenegger Wins 141 Title, Two Other Hounds Earn Placement Finishes

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 11 ranked UIndy wrestling team competed at the Indiana Little State tournament this weekend, and came away with one title for Jake Niffenegger in the 141 weight class.

This is Niffenegger's second title in his short time with the Greyhounds. Tanner Tishner and Elijah Hinshaw also earned placement finishes in their respective weight classes on Saturday.

INS & OUTS
Niffenegger led the way for the Hounds going undefeated on the weekend, winning his four matches by a combined 22 to seven.

He made quick work of his first opponent, Caiden Hampton from Rochester, 3-1 in just 53 seconds, and later that day backing it up with a 5-1 decision win over Cumberland's Eli Peyton.

His semi final and final matches were just like his first two, domination from start to finish.

He earned an overtime decision, 4-1, to make the 141 finals over Marian's Elijah Anthony, and eventually danced his way to the top with a dominant 11-4 win over Thomas More's Cole Thomas to take the 141 title.

Tishner also had a successful weekend for the Hounds, taking home a third place finish in 133, which marked his third top six finish of the season.

Tishner had three commanding victories, including a major decision and tech fall in his first two matches of the day. He won those matches by a combined 31 to seven over Kolton Ploughe and Nick Rodriguez.

He fell in his semifinal match over Wabash's James Day, but rebounded in the 133 third place match with a third period fall win against West Liberty's Xavier Rodela.

Hinshaw earned his first placement finish of the season, with a 2-0 revenge win for the Hounds over fellow GLVC competitor Jackson Barnhart from McKendree.

He then lost his next match, before going on a roll and finishing with three consecutive wins on three successive quick pins to cap a successful weekend for Hinshaw, and earning him a career best fifth place finish in 285.

His best result prior to this weekend's Indiana Little State was a sixth place finish at last season's Wabash College Invite where Hinshaw finished sixth in 285.
