EVANSVILE, Ind.—The UIndy swimming & diving team wrapped with the 2024 GLVC Championships Saturday night with a bang. The Greyhound men held off a surging McKendree team to capture their fifth conference in the last seven years, while the women pushed Drury to the limit in a runner-up finish. All told, UIndy combined for 15 gold medals and three major awards, including now three-time Men's Swimmer of the Year

The final team standings could hardly have been closer. Though the Greyhound men led at the end of all four full days – Wednesday through Saturday – the final margin over McKendree ended at just 13 points. Meanwhile, the UIndy women made up ground each of the last two days but ultimately came 75 points short of winner Drury.

SATURDAY
The distance crew kicked off the final night with a point-filled performance in the mile. Led by
Jamie Glover's silver-medal swim, four Greyhound women placed in the top seventh, while Buessing and his gold-medal performance topped a trio of Hounds in the men's final. Glover became just the sixth UIndy woman to break the 17-minute barrier with a time of 16:55.49, while Buessing's A-cut time of 15:10.28 was a full seven seconds faster than second place.
The men's sprinters can up huge in the 100 free, taking the top two spots on the podium. In a tight finish,
Joao Silva (43.76) and
Jeron Thompson (43.79) both went sub-44, taking gold and silver, respectively, for the Hounds.
More hardware came in the 200 back. On the women's side,
Mia Krstevska (silver) and
Andrea Gomez (bronze) mined the precious medals, while
Lillie Arps earned fifth-place points.
Silas Buessing followed with a bronze-medal swim in the men's race, with his time of 1:44.24 good for second in the UIndy annals.
Celina Schmidt captured the fifth and final gold medal of the week for the women's team, touching first in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:13.22.
The Greyhound 400 freestyle relay teams capped the lengthy and exciting meet with two more podium finishes. The women's squad of

FRIDAY
In the afternoon diving session,
Julio Osuna posted the biggest number in the history of both UIndy and the GLVC on the 3-meter board. The Tijuana, Mexico native craft a 682.65-point set to out-score second place by nearly 100 points. All-American
Jason Lenzo added to his list of accolades with a bronze in the event, while freshman
Adam Carr battled to a fifth-place finish.
After winning both the 1- and 3-meter competitions this year, Osuna now has five GLVC gold medals to his credit.
The evening finals started with a 1-2 finish by the women in the 500 free.
Jamie Glover and
Brynhildur Traustadottir claimed the top two spots on the podium, with Glover's career-best 4:55.87 setting the gold standard in the event.
More distance success followed with another historic swim from junior
Cedric Buessing. Already a two-time GLVC Swimmer of the Year, Buessing continued his onslaught of the UIndy record book, resetting his own school record in the 500 free. His A-cut time of 4:18.84 is the fastest in DII this season and also broke a GLVC meet record, his third conference-record swim of the week.
Isabella Revstedt and
Caroline Reinke added to the Hounds' medal count in the women's 100 back. The former finished in 54.82 to share the gold medal with Drury's Lexie Waller, while the latter finished just a quarter-second behind to take bronze.
Brayden Cole broke out a gold-medal swim in the men's 100 back, posting his first-ever sub-53 time at 52.94.
Andrea Gomez was one of three Greyhounds in the finals of the 200 fly. She touched the wall in 2:00.08, earning a silver medal while posting the second-fastest time in school history.
Freshman
Elias Noe, meanwhile, set the final school record of the night with a bronze-medal time of 1:46.29 in the men's 200 fly.
The UIndy women capped the evening with a silver-medal swim in the 200 free relay. The squad of

Kirabo Namutebi combined for a 1:31.61.
Additionally, the women's B team of

THURSDAY
The Hounds' first gold of the day came on the diving boards. Junior
Alexis Lumaj secured her first career GLVC medal with a winning score of 460.55 on the 3-meter. Teammate
Daeges Morgan took bronze in her conference debut with a 347.25.
The evening finals kicked off with the 100 butterfly, where UIndy racked up a ton of points.
Stefanie Markwardt and
Elias Noe both took home silver medals, with both authoring top-five times in the UIndy record book. Seven more Hounds—four men and three women—placed in the top eight in the event, while
Isabella Revstedt and
Joao Silva won their respective gender's B final.
Andrea Gomez netted another runner-up finish for UIndy, touching second in the women's 400 IM.
Cedric Buessing continued his trend of dominance at the GLVC meet. The reigning GLVC Swimmer of the Year won the men's 400 IM by breaking his own school and conference record with a time of 3:43.78. His younger brother Silas wasn't far with a time of 3:49.83, good for bronze.
Brynhildur Traustadottir led the Hounds in the 200 free, placing fifth with a B-cut mark of 1:51.81.
The evening's lone relay, the 400 medley, capped the day's festivities. UIndy took second in both women's heats, with the quartet of Revstedt,
Celina Schmidt,
Stefanie Markwardt and
Kirabo Namutebi securing a silver medal with a strong NCAA provisional time of 3:41.30.
The Greyhound men followed with a pair of exciting victories. After the B team won their heat with a provisional time of 3:13.97, the Hounds' top team out-swam the GLVC's best with a gold-medal performance of 3:09.06, snapping school and conference records. Hear from the record-setting team of

WEDNESDAY
The night's action started with a timed final of the 1000-yard freestyle, and after a fourth-place finish last year,
Brynhildur Traustadottir earned a spot on the podium tonight. The Icelandic distance swimmer earned silver with a time of 10:05.39 – the second-fastest 1000 time in program history. All told, five of the top 11 spots were occupied by Greyhounds, with fourth-place
Jamie Glover sliding into seventh on the school's top 10 list.
Cedric Buessing earned his second medal of the meet, taking gold in the men's 1000 for the third straight year. His time of 8:57.18 set a new meet record and is the fastest in Division II this season. He shard the podium with teammate
Stanislaw Chalat, whose 9:13.33 netted a bronze medal.
Silas Buessing moved up the UIndy top 10 with a third-place performance in the 200 IM, with his 1:47.14 vaulting his name to fourth in the program annals.
Later,
Kirabo Namutebi had one of the more exciting GLVC debuts. The freshman sprinter out of Kampala, Uganda captured gold in the 50 free, out-touching Drury's fastest swimmers with a lightning-fast 22.65. In fact, she recording two sub-23s on the day, with her morning prelim time of 22.57 good for No. 2 on the school's all-time list.
After winning the morning prelim, senior
Joao Silva followed with a bronze-medal swim in the men's 50. His 19.92 was just 16 hundredths back of first.
Meanwhile on the boards, the Hounds started the diving events by nabbing two more medals.
Julio Osuna and
Jason Lenzo earned gold and bronze, respectively, on the 1-meter. It marked the third straight GLVC title for Osuna in the event, who is also the defending national champ.
The Greyhounds' capped the night with a pair of podium finishes in the always-exciting 200 medley relay.

The conference meet kicked off Tuesday evening with the men's and women's finals of the 800 freestyle relay, with both events netting a medal for the Hounds. The men's quartet of

Celina Schmidt,
Andrea Gomez,
Sharon Semchiy and
Brynhildur Traustadottir took bronze. Both team's improved upon B-cut times, with both ranked in the top five in the nation.
Meanwhile, the women's B team won the consolation final, as
Jamie Glover,
Mia Krstevska,
Hanna Burke and
Lillie Arps combined for a time of 7:29.27, which would have been good for fourth in the championship race.
