SMYRNA, Tenn. - The UIndy softball team defeated Thomas More on the first day of the Music City Invitational. Hosted by Trevecca Nazarene, the second game of the day for the Greyhounds against Northwood was canceled due to inclement weather.

After hitting a three-run, inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the first, fifth-year senior
Emily O'Connor made history in the fifth inning by driving in
Braxton Downs for her 194th career RBI. The timely single also provided the go-ahead run, breaking a 3-3 tie.
O'Connor passed her former teammate Gianni Iannantone (2018-22) for the all-time RBI lead. O'Connor now has her sights set on becoming the first Greyhound ever to reach 200 career ribbies.
Jayden Casebolt started in the circle for the Hounds and got the win. Casebolt threw for six innings, finishing with 76 total pitches. The junior struck out eight batters and didn't allow a single walk. Kenzie Smith pitched in the final inning, throwing a 1-2-3 seventh, striking out all three batters to earn the save.
Downs finished with a double and two runs scored, while
Jocelyn Calvin and
Shelby Cook had a single and a walk apiece.
UP NEXT
On day two of the tournament, the Greyhounds will face in-region Cedarville followed by a matchup with Gannon. Both contests will take place on field two at Cedar Stone Park. The first game will be against Cedarville at 11 a.m. ET with the game against Gannon to follow.
