INDIANAPOLIS – Over a week removed from a tight-fought battle with the cross-town Butler Bulldogs, the UIndy women's tennis team let out some frustrations, sweeping the No. 25-ranked Findlay Oilers on Friday afternoon.
The Hounds went perfect in singles, winning from one to six all in straight sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Before the Greyhounds laid out a clinic in singles, the teams battled it out through doubles. Quick 6-2 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 courts earned the points for the Hounds. With the point already in the Hounds favor, the Oilers scored a tiebreaker victory at the top court, but the Hounds still carried the lead into singles play.
The No. 1 court, occupied by
Diane Flament, and the No. 6 slot, manned by
Valentine Colin, were the first pairs to score victories, both in quick work. Flament, coming into the matchup at No. 45, went 6-2, 6-1. Colin matched that, going 6-2, 6-1 herself.
No. 7-ranked
Tyffaine Pais was next on the victory docket for the Hounds, winning 6-4, 6-2 out of the No. 3 spot. Rounding out the next two wins for the Hounds was No. 19
Benedetta Sensi, winning 6-4, 6-2, No. 25
Ana Hollweg, snagging a tight second set to win 6-3, 7-5.
Maissane Aik was the last Greyhound to claim victory. She claimed a nailbiter of a first set 7-6 with a 7-1 tiebreaker. That followed in a slightly less stressful set win for Aik, as she won 6-4.
UP NEXT
The ranked foes continue for the Hounds as they come to blows with a familiar opponent. The No. 12 Greyhounds travel up to Detroit, Mich. for a bout with the No. 14-ranked Wayne State Warriors. Last time these teams met was at the UIndy Tennis Center where UIndy came away with a 4-2 victory.
