WHEELING, W. Va - The No. 8 UIndy softball team swept Wheeling in a doubleheader on Thursday. The Greyhounds shut out Wheeling, 9-0, in the first game. This is the sixth shutout the Hounds have recorded this season. The second game ended in a mercy ruling with UIndy defeating Wheeling in five innings, 15-4.

The Hounds got on the board quickly with a single by
Shelby Cook but was able to make it home due to an error by the Cardinals.
Jocelyn Calvin was on base due to a walk, giving Cook two RBIs. Later in the first inning. After blanking Wheeling in the bottom of the inning, UIndy finished the inning leading, 3-0.
At the top of the third,
Braxton Downs started the inning with a triple. After a
Lexy Rees walk, Downs scored on a Proctor single, while Rees came around on an infield hit by
Grace Mosele, increasing the Greyhound's lead to five.
UIndy pulled away with four more runs in the sixth and seventh frames. Calvin had two singles and two runs in the final two innings.
In the circle for the Hounds was
Kenzee Smith. For the sixth time this season, Smith remained in the circle for the entirety of the game. The senior only allowed four hits and three walks and struck out eight batters to earn another shutout.
GAME 2 | UIndy 15, Wheeling 4 (5 innings)
The Greyhounds used the momentum from the first game to get off to a hot start, with five runs in each of the first three innings.
In the first inning, the Hounds scored five runs, three before their first out. The inning featured a ton of extra-base hits, including triples by Calvin and Cook and doubles by Downs and
Emily O'Connor.
UIndy's power at the plate continued into the second inning. The highlight of the inning was a three-run homer by Rees. Calvin had two RBIs in two separate at bats in the frame—one coming on a bases-loaded walk and another on a sac fly—helping push the lead to 10-0.
When all was said and done, this was the highest-scoring game for the Hounds this season. Rees led the team in RBIs with four, while Mosele was not far behind with three of her own. The team had 17 hits during the game, another season high for the Greyhounds. Downs and O'Connor led the team with three each.
Jayden Casebolt was the starting pitcher for the Hounds, improving to 4-1 on the season with the win. She pitched for three innings and allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three batters.
Katie Rose stepped into the circle for the final two innings. In only her second appearance in a Greyhound uniform, Rose stuck out two batters and had two walks.

The Greyhounds will stay in West Virginia to face West Liberty tomorrow. It will be a doubleheader, with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. at the Hilltopper Softball Complex in West Liberty, W. Va.
