West Liberty, W. Va. - The No. 8 UIndy softball team downed West Liberty in a Friday sweep. The Greyhounds now improve to 13-2 and leave West Virginia with four wins in four games.

GAME 1 | UIndy 10, West Liberty 0 (6 innings)
Kenzee Smith improves her record to 6-0 on the year after shutting out West Liberty. After facing 22 batters, Smith stuck out 12 of them and didn't allow a single walk. She also only allowed four hits, all of which were singles. This is the fifth game in the senior's career where she stuck 12 batters her highest being 14.

The Hounds pulled away in the fifth and sixth innings with a combined total of eight runs.

In the fifth, with
Braxton Downs on base after hitting a single,
Lexy Rees sent the ball into left field for a double and an RBI. Nichols brought Rees home with a single up the middle before later scoring herself with an unearned tally.Â

During the sixth,
Dominique Proctor and
Grace Mosele came up to bat with the bases loaded. They each hit a single, allowing a runner to advance to home. The Greyhounds tacked on three unearned runs to end the rally and ultimately inact the run rule.

GAME 2 | UIndy 7, West Liberty 2
Smith was masterful again in this circle but this time in relief. She entered the circle in the bottom of the fourth with the tying runner at third and two outs. She struck out the batter in three straight pitches and went on to fan the next seven batters. Smith finished with 3 1/3 perfect innings to earn her second save of the season.

The Hounds finally put it away in the seventh with a four-run rally. It was highlighted by a two-run triple hit by
Shelby Cook, earning her two RBIs.
Emily O'Connor and Cook finished with two ribbies, while Downs led the Greyhounds in hits with three.

Jayden Casebolt earned the win and is now 5-1 on the season.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will travel to Central Florida to participate in the annual THE Spring Games from Mar. 10 through the 14th.
