INS & OUTS
Led by an experienced group of
Tom Zeuch,
Matthieu Derache,
Erwan Momo Andre and
Louis Picaud, the Hounds stormed to the doubles point. Zeuch and Derache, the new No. 1 pairing for the Hounds found their rhythm late, scoring a 7-5 victory. For EWA and Picaud though, it was like riding a bike, with pair playing together early last season. They made quick work picking up a 6-3 win.
Singles kept the gas going as Zeuch, the No. 2 ranked player in the nation, was efficient with a 6-1, 6-2 domination. Picaud fought off a tough first set to etch out a 6-2 second a quickly put the Hounds up 3-0.
After the Hounds quick start, it was back-to-back warfare, as Derache and newcomer
David Simeonov battled through gritty three setters. Simeonov was able to fight through it, but Derache suffered a 10-8 super tiebreak loss to give the Lakers their first point.
EWA earned that right back at No. 5 singles, before the Lakers snagged the match at No. 6 singles, squeezing a pair of tight sets past spring semester addition
Mauricio Grijalva.
