INDIANAPOLIS – In a rematch of last year's NCAA DII Midwest Regional Championship, the No. 7-ranked University of Indianapolis Greyhounds defeated the No. 18 Ferris State Bulldogs by a mark of 6-1. The Hounds swept doubles, and only faltered in No. 3 singles on the way to the decisive in-region victory.
INS & OUTS
Just as they did the day before, the Hounds were impressive to start doubles action.
Tom Zeuch and
Matthieu Derache at No. 1 continue to find flow and chemistry as they battled a tough pair from the Bulldogs, half of which being Bejamin Lortie who captured the Midwest Doubles crown in the fall. Despite the fall results, Zeuch and Derache snagged the 7-5 win.
The second half of the fall regional champs in Jan Koupill played No. 2 against
Louis Picaud and
Erwan Momo Andre, and did not fare better, losing 6-3. Rounding out doubles,
Pedro Franca and
David Simeonov were quality with a 6-4 win.
Singles saw victories for the Hounds at every court minus No. 3-singles. The strength of the Bulldogs was shown on the top of the lineup as No. 44 Lortie forced No. 2 Zeuch to three sets, with Zeuch pulling out the shutout in the decider. Much like court one, Simeonov at No. 2 singles faced a 7-6 first set loss but rebounded with a 7-5 and 6-4 set wins to earn the victory.
From there it was cake, as No. 24 Derache found his footing after a rough match the day prior, winning 6-2, 6-2. EWA and
Mauricio Grijalva, picking up his first Greyhound win, ended the match with a pair of straight-set dubs to earn the Hounds their second straight dub.
