Derache, Zeuch Upset #1 Doubles Team as UIndy Survives Washburn

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 7-ranked University of Indianapolis men's tennis team outlasted the No. 15 Washburn Ichabods in the UIndy Tennis Center late on Friday night. The highlight of the night came when Tom Zeuch and Matthieu Derache made sparks, upsetting the reigning ITA Cup doubles champs and the No. 1-ranked doubles pairing in Tim Hammes and Santiago Rendon. The Hounds remain undefeated on the season with the win, with two of their three matches over ranked opposition.

INS & OUTS
Doubles continues to be a strength of the Greyhounds as Louis Picaud and Erwan Momo Andre dominated early, scoring a 6-1 victory within just 20 minutes of the start of action. That was the lone quick dual, as both the No. 1 and No. 3 courts went to tiebreaks, both landing in the Hounds favor.

First was Zeuch and Derache, facing the top-pairing in the nation, were excellent. Zeuch's experience in that same spot just a season ago favored the Hounds as they fought to an 8-6 tiebreak.

David Simeonov and Pedro Franca fed off that energy, producing a clean sweep with a 7-4 tiebreak of their own.

No. 2-ranked Zeuch, fresh off the upset, was electric as he kept with the ranked opposition theme, facing No. 10 Sebastian Pjontek. It was quick work, however, as the fifth-year senior scored a 6-3, 6-0 win.

The Ichabods, did not lie down for the Hounds, scoring big wins at No. 3 and No. 4 to even the score at 2-2. EMA calmed the bleeding, winning in straight 6-3 sets. That left it to David Simeonov, facing the No. 30-ranked Pavlos Parson, to be the decider. After a convincing first 6-1-win, Parson returned the favor and evened it with his own 6-1 win. The momentum wasn't enough for the ranked foe, as Simeonov won his first match against ranked opposition in his career.
