#12 Hounds Sweeps #18 Grand Valley in In-Region Bout

INDIANAPOLIS – In their first official contest of the spring, the No. 12-ranked University of Indianapolis women's tennis team went to work, dismantling the Grand Valley State Lakers in a big in-region victory.

INS & OUTS
Doubles was saw top and bottom supremacy for the Hounds, as Diane Flament and Benedetta Sensi, the pair that took the Fall Midwest Regional by storm before injury, picked right back up where they had before, winning 6-3.

Maria Fiacan, the reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year, and freshman Ana Hollweg out of Boliva made up the youth movement at court three for the Hounds. That pairing seemed to be the right one as the group secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win.

From there, it was all Hounds in singles, with every match, minus one, being decided in two sets. Flament, at the top of the lineup, featuring a No. 45 ranking was quick and lethal with a 6-1, 6-1 straight sets win. Maissane Aik and Tyffaine Pais, ranked No. 7, looked to bounce back after a rough doubles match. Aik was aggressive early, winning 6-3, 6-1. Pais, battling nerves in her first set, survived the tiebreak 7-6, before showing the talent that earned her the Midwest crown in the fall, winning the second set 6-4. Sensi, coming in ranked No. 19 after a runner-up finish at that same tournament, faltered in her first set, but rattled off a 6-0 second and a 10-7 third to earn her victory.

Rounding out the matches for the Hounds was No. 25 Ana Hollweg at No. 5 singles with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 performance, and her doubles pairing Fiacan who worked a 6-2, 7-5 win.
