Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked UIndy men's tennis team faced their biggest test since earning their top ranking, facing off against the No. 3-ranked Saint Leo Lions in Saint Leo, Fla. It was nailbiter of a match with Saint Leo claiming the 4-3 victory.
Missing No. 1-ranked
Tom Zeuch, the Hounds dropped the doubles point before splitting singles play 3-3.
INS & OUTS
At the top of the card was a No. 11 vs. No. 17 bout with
Erwan Momo Andre and
Louis Picaud stepping up to the No. 1 slot in Zeuch's absence. It was tight early but the Hounds pulled away late, earning the 6-3 win. The Lions didn't stutter with the deficit, taking matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts, the result at court two coming via tiebreak.
Singles was as back-and-forth as you could ask as the Lions took courts one and four, with the Hounds responding in tow at the No.2 and No. 3 slots. No. 71
Matthieu Derache kept the Hounds hope alive with a massive win at court five. It came down to
Mauricio Grijalva as the final match. The grad-student out of Mexico kept it close in both sets but eventually fell in straight-sets to clinch the match for the No. 3 Lions.
