Robinson Formally Introduced on Campus as Women’s Triathlon Head Coach

INDIANAPOLIS – Doug Robinson was formally introduced as the first-ever UIndy women's triathlon head coach on Wednesday in front of a small gathering of community members and university personnel.

"When this opportunity came up here in our community of Indianapolis, it was the perfect aligning of stars," said Robinson. "My life is anchored here with my family and children, so when UIndy announced the position I was beyond excited to pursue it."

Robinson was announced as the program's first head coach just three weeks after the official announcement of the university's addition of women's triathlon, as well as women's bowling, for the upcoming academic year.

"Someone who is not quite on the radar of a swim coach or cross country coach because they're just a smidge off…they're my perfect athlete," said Robinson. "Those that fly under the radar of most recruiters is when I get to step in and say, 'you know what, you don't know it yet, but you're something special.'"

Robinson brings a wealth of experience to UIndy, most recently as the co-founder, owner, and head coach at Phoenix Fitness and Training LLC, based here in the Circle City. Over the years in his role at Phoenix, Robinson coached over 100 direct report athletes and more than 200 training group athletes. Also, in her high school years, he coached Charlotte Kumler, who finished second at the 2023 NCAA DIII National Championships.

The official announcement of Robinson's hire can be found here.
