Physical Game Favors Greyhounds on Friday

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball earned its first GLVC win of the season on Friday, picking up a 75-71 victory over McKendree in a physical contest from Nicoson Hall.

It marks the fourth straight win over the Bearcats and closest margin of victory for the Greyhounds in the series since the 2021-22 season.

Dylan Ingram recorded his first-career double-double on Friday, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while adding four blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Grant Disken capped a 9-2 run early in the second half to give UIndy its largest lead of the evening, tipping in a missed triple from Zac Szul to stretch the advantage to 14. The Bearcats followed with their own 14-2 run, however, scoring nine straight points to force a UIndy timeout.

The Hounds held serve, with Dashawn Jackson and Brody Whitaker following a huge dunk from Kelvin Amoako to keep the Bearcats at bay. Leading by four with 93 seconds left, Disken launched a 3-pointer from the logo to beat the shot clock buzzer, shifting the momentum back into the Greyhounds' favor.

UIndy sealed it at the charity stripe, sinking its final five free throws – including four from Ingram – to put the game out of reach. An errant 3-pointer from McKendree's Joey Niesman proved fruitless at the horn, lifting Scott Heady to his first win league play as the Greyhound head coach.

Disken scored eight of his 10 points in the second half, adding four rebounds in the win.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Jackson and Whitaker both flirted with double-doubles, securing eight and nine rebounds, respectively, to go along with their double-digit points.
- All eight Greyhounds recorded at least three rebounds, including Lavonte Harris and Tucker Tornatta.
- The freshman Tornatta was one of four Hounds in double figures, scoring 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including one 3-pointer.
- Szul logged 24 minutes against McKendree, tied for his second-highest total of the season.
- Ingram's four blocks raise his team lead to 15, with his seven ranking second in GLVC contests.
- The Hounds' 33 free throws are the third straight game they have attempted at least 21 and second time this season they reached 30.

MORE NOTES
McKendree's Kevin Stein scored a career-high 31 points, hitting all four of his triples in the second half … the Greyhounds and Bearcats combined for 63 free-throw attempts on Friday, with a whopping 49 fouls called; UIndy's 33 tosses from the charity stripe are the most for the team since January 20, 2024, against…McKendree.
