INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhounds came into day two of the 46th Midwest Classic with eight still competing, and came away with two placement finishers, Aidan Sprague (133) and Cale Gray (285). Both Sprague and Gray captured fourth place finishes today in their respective weight classes, with Sprague going 4-1 today, and Gray picked up two wins of his own.

INS & OUTS
Gray began his day with a dog fight against Glenville State's Colby Whitehall, who was the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Classic, and is the No. 9 ranked wrestler in the country. Both guys in today's match had two escapes apiece, forcing things to a third overtime where Gray would come out on top with the first tiebreaker, riding time, being the deciding factor in Gray's victory.

Gray would go one to drop his next match against Grand Valley's Carter Blough, the fourth ranked wrestler in the country, via a tech fall. But he rebounded immediately against the No. 12-ranked Jake Powell from Tiffin after a take down and four-point near fall led to a pin for Gray, and a spot in the third place match.

In the 285 third place match, Gray faced off against No. 5 ranked Luke Tweeton from UMary, and fell in a 4-2 defensive battle that didn't see many attacking chances for either wrestler.

Along with Gray, Sprague also went on a tear today, getting things started quickly with a 33 second pin in his first match against Pitt-Johnstown's Brady Baker, and backing it up with a 14-4 major decision win over UMary's Ben DeForest.

He then won a wild back-and-forth 14-13 bout against UW-Parkside's Elon Rodriguez. Sprague collected 10 of his 14 points in the first period with two take downs and a four-point near fall. His final win of the day was a top-15 national ranked win for Sprague, pinning Millersville's Nick Cottone in the first period. Sprague fell in his third place match to GLVC foe Thaddeus Long via tech fall, but capped a stellar day with a fourth place finish at the Midwest Classic.

In 125, Nathan Smith began the day as one of the first matches in the 9:30 a.m. wave, and came out on top with an escape and take down with seven seconds left to clinch a spot in the sixth round of the consolation bracket. Smith bowed out of the tournament after a hard fought loss to the No. 4-seed Colton Drousias from Glenville State.

Gavin Garcia began his day in the quarterfinals, and fell via tech fall to Hayden Kuhn from Ashland who went on to earn a finalist finish in the 149 weight class. Garcia's second match of the day was an exciting one, as Garcia secured a take down with one minute left to take a 4-1 lead before an escape and fall from his opponent Alex Castaneda with 23 seconds left gave Castaneda the win over Garcia in the sixth round of the consolation bracket.

Logan Farnell (165), Shane Bates (174), Christian Chavez (184) and Ethan Farnell (197) all fell in their lone matches on day two.

As a team UIndy finished in 13th place with 64 points, tied with Colorado Mesa. UW-Parkside, Pitt-Johnstown, and Central Oklahoma rounded out the top three teams at the Midwest Classic.

The Hounds will have just under a month to rest before playing host to the team's first GLVC dual of the season against Drury on Jan. 7 at 4 p.m., in what will be Alumni and Youth Day at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.
