Hounds Wrap Up Final Meet Before Annual Midwest Classic

MANCHESTER, IN – The UIndy wrestling team came out of the Indiana Little State event on Saturday with a whopping 11 wrestlers placing in their respective weight class.

Luke Robards (157) and Noah Clouser (197) led the way for UIndy with runner-up finishes in the 157 and 197 weight classes, while Zach Haughton (141), Michael Ortega (157), and Ethan Farnell (197) all captured third place.

"We had a smaller group compete at little state this weekend," head coach Jason Warthan said. "We had a lot going on with some minor injuries, sickness, finals week this and Midwest next weekend."

INS & OUTS
Clouser (197) garnered his first placement finish of the 2025-26 season this weekend after going 5-1, with five straight wins to begin the day. He used take downs in the quarterfinals over Trine's Jacob Saylor, before battling to a win in the semifinals over Manchester's Cameron Crisp 6-4.

"Noah Clouser made the finals at 197, and it was good to see him compete again," Warthan said. "This was his first time competing this year and he is up at a different weight class." Along with Clouser, Robards (157) came away with a runner-up finish. Robards earned four wins, and using two late third period take downs in his quarterfinal and semifinal to advance to his first final bout of the season. His semifinal match was against UIndy's Michael Ortega (157, unattached), who won five matches of his own, including a third place match first period pin against No. 11-ranked Nico Taddy.

"We had 3 really strong performances at 157," Warthan said" "Luke Robards had two very timely take downs to win in the quarters and semifinals, but gave up a take down with a few seconds left in the finals to take 2nd, and after losing to his teammate in the semis Mike Ortega pinned the #11 ranked Nino Taddy of West Liberty," Warthan said.

Haughton (141) and Farnell (197, unattached) rounded out the third place finishers for the Greyhounds. Haughton gained three wins, and Farnell gained four wins on the day. Farnell continues to the lead the team in wins this season with 18.

Chayce Yant (141) claimed his second fourth place finish of the season, with his other fourth place finish at the Bob Del Rosa Open in early November. Yant's highlight from Saturday, was beginning his day with two tech fall wins.

Armen Koltookian (197), Bryce Doss (157, unattached), Jadon Gyan (125), and Mason Day (174) all garnered sixth place finishes in their respective weight classes, while Brayden Deem (149) rounded out the 11 Greyhounds who placed with a seventh place finish.

"The guys that did compete wrestled hard and continue to show improvement week to week," Warthan said.
