LEBANON, Ill. – The UIndy men's basketball team led for just six minutes on Saturday, but finished when it mattered most in a 76-72 victory at McKendree to sweep the regular-season series.
Â
Dashawn Jackson put the Greyhounds ahead for good with a driving layup before sealing the victory at the charity stripe with less than three seconds remaining. The junior led the Hounds with 19 points, including 10 in the second half.
Â
UIndy won both meetings during the regular season by near identical scores, defeating McKendree back on Jan. 3 with a final of
75-71 at Nicoson Hall.

Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds turned the ball over just once in the final 21-and-a-half minutes, keeping themselves within striking distance before
Tucker Tornatta knotted the game at 52 apiece with 11:33 remaining in the second half.
Â
The teams traded blows down the stretch;
Zac Szul drilled a 3-pointer with six minutes left before the Bearcats responded with their own 5-0 burst to lead, 67-64, just 60 seconds later. Jackson found Tornatta on back-to-back possessions soon after, including on a breakaway dunk after a Jackson rebound.
Â
McKendree's Joey Niesman split two free throws to tie the game at 72 when Jackson drove through the defense with 1:31 on the clock. The Bearcats had a good look following a timeout, but Jackson secured his team-high sixth rebound to prevent a tip-in opportunity.
Â
The hosts were in the driver's seat late in the first half, leading 40-33 with more than three minutes left before the break. The Greyhounds held the Bearcats scoreless from that point on, with
Dylan Ingram getting in the scoring column late in the half to cut the deficit to three.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX
-
Lavonte Harris scored 11 points, finishing in double figures for the fourth time in the last six games.
- UIndy shot 53.6 percent from the field in the second half, while limiting McKendree to just nine makes on 27 attempts.
- Along with sharing the team lead on the glass with Jackson,
Grant Disken dished out four assists in the win. The graduate student has recorded three or more helpers in four of the past five games.
- UIndy's six turnovers are the third fewest the team has committed this winter. The Hounds are 3-0 this season with an average margin of victory of under four points when committing six or less turnovers.
