Greyhounds Survive Revenge Game Versus Saints

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball team pushed its back way into the win column on Thursday with a gritty 81-80 victory over Maryville at Nicoson Hall.

The Greyhounds successfully avenge their December loss to the Saints and split the regular-season series at one win apiece.

Lavonte Harris scored a career-high 21 points, adding eight rebounds and two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a tale of two halves on Thursday, as Maryville came out of halftime on fire. The visitors outscored the Greyhounds, 28-14, in the first 12+ minutes of the second half to lead by seven and damper the UIndy momentum it built prior to the break.

The Hounds had an answer, however, and it is what worked in the first half: the 3-pointer. Harris followed up Dashawn Jackson with back-to-back triples of his own, quickly knotting the game at 68 with under 10 minutes remaining.

Maryville continued to answer, maintaining the slimmest of leads down the stretch. It was the Greyhound defense that stepped up, holding the Saints scoreless the final three minutes. Harris grabbed the team's only offensive rebound of the second half with 2:35 left, sinking a free throw to inch the Hounds back within one.

Jackson won it with a driving layup as 25 ticks loomed on the game clock, but Zac Szul secured the defensive rebound on the other end to seal the home victory.

After leading for less than four minutes in the first half, Maryville held the advantage for a total of 15:59 on Thursday. The final Greyhound lead – before the game-winner – was with more than seven minutes left in the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX
- UIndy scored 20 second-chance points thanks to 12 offensive rebounds in the win, with all but one of each coming in the first half.
- Grant Disken dished out a season-high nine assists, including seven in the first half.
- The 81-80 win is the fourth time this season a game has been decided by one point. UIndy is 3-1 in such contests.
- Dylan Ingram recorded 11 points in 20 minutes of action, finishing in double figures for the second straight game off the bench … Harris drilled six 3-pointers in all, finishing seven for 10 from the floor.
- The Hounds built a nine-point lead late in the first half after a 10-for-20 start from beyond the arc, finishing 15 for 36 (41.7 percent) on the evening. The team's 15 triples are the most since January 2024 at Truman.

MORE NOTES
UIndy now leads the all-time series, 15-4 … Maryville's Luke Williams scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-21 shooting.
