Hounds Earn Two Wins on Senior Day at Greyhound Duals

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 23 ranked UIndy wrestling team dominated in their first dual of the day against Kentucky Wesleyan, winning 57-0. The shutout win for the Hounds is their largest margin of victory in a dual since the Hounds took down Defiance 57-0 in their first dual of the 2021-22 season.

The Greyhounds controlled from start to finish in all ten of the team's matches, earning pin victories in five matches, three tech falls, and two forfeits.

INS & OUTS
Nathan Smith began the day in 125, taking down Bryson Rowley via an early second period pin. Smith recorded two early take downs in the first period to jump out to a 6-0 lead, before closing the match out in the first minute of the second period after a reversal.

Senior Brayden Lowery (141) would be the next Hound to wrestle, with Aiden Dallinger earning a forfeit win in the 133 weight class.

Lowery wasted no time, picking up two quick take downs and pinning Matthew Velasco in under two minutes.

In the 149 weight class, senior Jackson Hoover took care of Dalen Kimble in the first period via a 17-1 tech fall victory. His win consisted of two early take downs and two early four-point near falls to jump out to a commanding 14-1 lead, before securing the win with a late first period take down to end the match.

Senior Nathan Conley (157) and Shane Bates (165) had similar results, taking down their opponents in under two minutes, and earning 12 team points. Bringing the Hounds lead to a commanding 35 point lead over Kentucky Wesleyan.

Similarly to Dallinger, senior Trey Sizemore earned a forfeit win in the 174 weight class.

Senior Aiden Petersen (184) and Cale Gray (285) were the only two today to have their matches extended into the third period, but both earned tech fall victories. Petersen's win came via a four-second near fall, while Gray's win came via a late third period take down.

Derek Blubaugh (197) had five first period take downs against Cameron Baker, before pinning him with just over one minute remaining in the first period.

The story was a little different in the Hounds second dual of the day, falling 21-17 in a closely contested matchup against Glenville State.

Even in the loss, the Hounds still managed to pick up four wins; Nathan Smith (125), Jackson Hoover (149), Shane Bates (165), and Cale Gray (285). But, the stunner of this dual was Derek Blubaugh falling to No. 6-ranked Kyle Homet.

INS & OUTS
In 125, Smith began the dual strong for the Hounds earning a closely fought 6-3 decision over the No. 15-ranked Colton Drousias. This win today for Smith marks his first win against a top-15 ranked opponent this season.

The Hounds' Aiden Dallinger (133) and Brayden Lowery (141) both dropped their matches, falling to Hunter Ross (133) via tech fall, and Caleb Brooks (141) via major decision.

Hoover (149) got UIndy back on track with a convincing 17-1 tech fall win over Gavin Quiocho, who was the national champion at the 133 weight class in 2023, and the national runner-up in 133 in 2024.

Nathan Conley's late comeback effort against Guy Deleonardis fell short in the 157 weight class, after a late escape from Conley made the score 4-1, and was unable to capitalize on the take down opportunity in the final 20 seconds of the match.

Bates took care of business in his match at 165, after three early take downs vaulted him out to a 12-3 lead after period two, before closing out the match in three periods 15-3.

Trey Sizemore (174) dropped his match against Zachary Holstion after Holstion's take down and near fall in the second period secured his 10-2 victory. While Aiden Petersen fell in 184 to No. 4 ranked Hayden Pummel, who wrestled up a weight class today.

But the real shocker of the day came in 197, when the No. 6 ranked wrestler in 184, Kyle Homet, took down No. 1 ranked Derek Blubaugh via a walk-off take down in overtime. This is Blubaugh's first loss of the 2024-25 season, and his first loss since last year's NCAA Division II Super Regional against Central Oklahoma's Dalton Abney.

Gray (285) finished the dual off with a dominating two period 16-0 tech fall victory over Devan Gauldin. Two reversals, a take down and a four-point near fall to end the match, got the job done for Gray, but was not enough for the Hounds as they fell 21-17 to Glenville State.

INS & OUTS
Smith (125), Hoover (149), Conley (157), Petersen (184), and Gray (285), all ended their matches via pin in the first period. Petersen's being the longest match of the three, pinning Montevallo's Savian Graham with one second left in the first period.

In 133 and 141, Dallinger (133) and Lowery (141), both toughed out back-and-forth matches that both ended via decision, earning six total points between the two of them for the Hounds.

Dallinger's match and lots of ups and downs. In the second period, a medical timeout was called to assess Dallinger who appeared to be injured after an attempted take down from Noah Smith. Dallinger continued after the medical timeout, and was tied with Noah Smith 5-5 with 10 seconds left in the third period, but earned his final point via riding time, and closing out the victory 6-5.

Sizemore (174) also rebounded after his loss in the Hounds' second dual, defeating Aiden Knight with two consecutive take downs late in the second period to jump out to an 11-4 lead. He controlled the third period, and closed out the 12-5 decision over Knight.
