Men’s Lacrosse Handles #14 Newberry on Sunday

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The No. 10 UIndy men's lacrosse team earned its way back in the win column with a 14-6 victory at 14th-ranked Newberry on Sunday afternoon.

Connor Magin scored a game-high four goals, while Nathan Lam netted a hat trick. Netminder AJ Preachuk kept the Newberry attack at bay, making 12 saves between the pipes.

The Greyhounds now lead the all-time series, 2-1, with all three meetings taking place on the Wolves' home field.

INS & OUTS
Jonah Koehler set the tone on Sunday, putting in a 10-of-14 effort at the faceoff dot in the win and limiting Newberry's time on offense. UIndy launched 58 shots as a result of hoarding possession, including 30 on goal.

Lam put the Hounds ahead for good with his first goal at the 11:36 mark of the opening frame, with Keegan Laughlin following suit minutes later. The Hounds' offense started slowly, scoring four times in the first 27 minutes. But it was the defense that kept the momentum in favor of the visitors, forcing nine first-half turnovers, leading to two goals with 25 seconds to pull away.

UIndy scored four goals in each of the final three quarters, with Matt Pereira netting both of his goals in the second half. Pereira's second score stretched the Greyhound lead to nine midway through the fourth before the Wolves tacked on a couple late goals at the end to cut the final deficit to eight.

Tanner Hahm scored his first collegiate goal in the win, finding the back of the cage during the third quarter.
