INDIANAPOLIS – To notch their sixth-straight win, the University of Indianapolis men's tennis team took down IU Indianapolis 4-3 on Wednesday, March 26. The Greyhounds move to 10-3 on the season.
In the winning effort today, UIndy has defeated IU Indy in the last six matchups, improving the all-time record between the crosstown foe to 13-5.
INS AND OUTS
The Jaguars dealt the first blow in the doubles point, winning 2-0. Matthieu Derache and Tadeo Gaggiofatto fell to Nathan Day and Konnor Gunwall 3-6 in #1 doubles, while Manu Lanteri and Lorenzo Di Cursi fell 3-6 to Steven Paz and Eli Mercer in #3 doubles.
David Simeonov's straight-set win in #1 singles put UIndy on the board, taking down Kamil Kozerski 6-2 7-5.
IU Indy jumped back on top with a win in #6 singles, after Di Cursi fell to Gunwall 2-6 3-6. Asier Ayllon Prado countered with a 6-2 7-5 win over Noah Viste at #4 singles to tie the match at two a side.
Mercer extended the Jaguar lead to 3-2 in #3 singles in outlasting Derache in three sets, winning 3-6 6-3 6-3.
The Hounds immediately found a response, as Lanteri grinded out a 7-5 7-6 win at #2 singles over Pax to level the match at 3-3.
It all came down to the #5 singles court, as Gaggiofatto and Will Thurin duked it out to decide the match. Gaggiofatto took home the first set without a sweat, winning 6-2. The second set was a back-and-forth affair, but Thurin ultimately edged out a 7-5 win to force a third set. Gaggiofatto stepped on the gas in deciding set, finding an early service break to clinch the set and match 6-2.
