INDIANAPOLIS – In their second Division I crosstown matchup this week, the University of Indianapolis men's tennis team defeated Butler University 5-2. The Greyhounds advance to 11-3 on the year.Â
This comes on the footsteps of a 4-3 win against IU Indy this Wednesday, making it the second straight win over a Division I opponent, while extending their win streak to seven.Â
INS AND OUTS
The Hounds were edged out in the doubles point 1-2, with the lone win coming in #3 doubles from Lorenzo Di Cursi and Manu Lanteri taking down Patrick Joss and Nicholas Shirley 6-4.Â
Matthieu Derache and David Simeonov were bested by Nicolas Arts and Rahulniket Konakanch 7-5 in #1 doubles, while Tadeo Gaggiofatto and Asier Ayllon Prado fell to Riccardo Baldi and Arnesh Singh 6-3 in #2 doubles.Â
In singles, the Hounds took home five of the six matches, all coming in straight sets. Derache won with the largest margin at #3 singles, making quick work of Konakanch 6-1 6-1 to level the score at 1-1.Â
Simeonov gave UIndy the lead with a 6-2 6-4 win over Joss in #1 singles, and Gaggiofatto cushioned the lead up to three with a 6-3 6-4 victory at #5 singles against Shirley.Â
The Bulldogs responded back with a 6-4 6-4 win in #2 singles from Baldi, besting Lantari, setting the score at 3-2.Â
From there, the Hounds stepped on the gas pedal and closed out two more wins. Di Cursi outlasted Aiden William 7-5 7-5 in #6 singles, and Ayllon Prado shut the door on Arts 7-6 6-4 to conclude the day.Â
