KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 7 UIndy women's lacrosse fought its way back into the win column on Thursday, defeating GLVC foe Rockhurst by a score of 15-5 thanks to an elite defensive performance.
The Greyhounds forced 22 Hawk miscues – credited with 13 caused turnovers – while limiting their hosts to just 17 shots and eight on goal.
Hadlee DeCampos and
Amanda Hurry caused three turnovers apiece, with
Malaena Michielin leading the way offensively with four goals.
INS & OUTS
UIndy came out of the gate with a head full of steam, scoring five times in the first quarter.
Ally Savino and
Caroline Krauch netted goals less than two minutes into the bout before Michielin tallied her first two of the evening. The Hawks stopped the bleeding eight minutes after the opening draw, but
Lucy Sander answered back with her eighth goal of the spring with under a minute to go in the frame.
Rockhurst kept the UIndy attack at bay during the middle frames, trading goals with the Hounds after
Alexa Versaci recorded two in the second. Freshman
Kendall Conrad also scored twice in the second half in just her second game back from injury. After the Hawks cut their deficit in half, the Greyhounds rattled off five consecutive goals to end the contest, including
Sage Da Silva with back-to-back scores to surpass 30 for the season.
Michielin's fourth and final goal forced the running clock with 100 seconds left to cap the win with a bang.
Elle Cimini was also essential to the UIndy defense, finishing with two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Mariah Whitfield, as well as Sander, also tallied three scoops.
INSIDE THE BOX
- The Greyhounds' ride held the Hawks to a 15-for-21 effort on clear attempts, while successfully clearing all 21 of their own chances.
- UIndy has now held its opponents this spring to six or less goals on seven occasions, including three times in the past four games.

Olivia Bladon led the Hounds with four draw controls, while also scoring once.
- Savino and Versaci dished out two helpers apiece, upping their season total to six and eight, respectively.

Both UIndy and Rockhurst were represented in the first
Midwest Region poll of the spring on Wednesday … the Greyhounds now lead the all-time series, 6-0 … Rockhurst goalkeeper Mae Beins entered Thursday atop the GLVC rankings in save percentage during conference play, with a 56.3 percent clip between the pipes.
