INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 17 UIndy men's tennis team is set to defend their title at the GLVC Championship Tournament in Springfield, Illinois this Saturday, May 1.
Last year, the Greyhounds swept Drury 4-0 en route to their second straight GLVC Championship.
The field will host the top-three teams based on highest divisional winning percentage from each of the GLVC's two divisions – East and West – earn a spot in the six-team, single-elimination tournament. After clinching another regular season title, UIndy comes into the tournament as the #1 Seed from the East Division.
The Hounds have been dominant all spring, and enter this tournament on a 13 match win streak that extends all the way back to February 16th. They're currently sitting at 17-3, and hold four wins over top-30 ranked opponents.
UIndy was polled the No. 2 in the Midwest Region in the final release by the NCAA, setting them up to be a regional hosting site. They've earned four wins inside the top-10 of the Midwest Region on, sporting a 10-1 in-region record.
Another storyline for the Greyhounds is Freshman Asier Ayllon Prado, who was recently named GLVC Freshman of the Year. With a 13 match win streak, and an overall record of 17-2 in singles competition, he enters the GLVC Championship without conceding a set since March 11.
Joining Ayllon Prado in year-end recognition was David Simeonov and Matthieu Derache, both of whom have achieved 11+ wins in singles play.
The Hounds will play at 2 PM this Saturday, May 3, as the #1 seed in the tournament semifinal. They will face the winner of Drury and McKendree.
