DAVIDSON, N.C. – The UIndy women's triathlon team placed sixth in its second competition of the fall, wrapping up the weekend at the Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon on Sunday.

The Greyhounds were third among DII programs, while Queens claimed the overall team title. Wingate (2nd) and Lenoir-Rhyne (4th) finished ahead of UIndy in the DII standings.

Newcomer
Geraldine Vazquez was the first Greyhound to cross the finish line, edging out three other racers in a span of nine seconds to place 43rd overall. Her time of 1:05:47.22 was highlighted by team-best 9:16 mark in the swimming leg.

Lillian Sunbury was just behind Vazquez in 54th, boosted by a 33:35 time on the bike. The junior finished ahead of teammate
Ainsleigh Cardone – less than 25 seconds apart – who turned in a time of just over 68 minutes on the course. Cardone shaved more than a minute off her first race of the season two weeks ago at the Geist Triathlon.

Transfer
Nadia Beran (60th, 1:14:23.26) and freshman
Haley Uberta (61st, 1:14:37.30) also crossed the finish line in back-to-back fashion, the latter posting the team's fastest running time by 23 seconds.

Miah Sosenheimer,
Katie Dolen, and
Sydney Rhodehamel rounded out the scoring for UIndy.

The Hounds return to competition on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Prairie State Cup in Dewitt, Ill., hosted by Millikin University. UIndy placed five among 12 teams in last year's race.
