Hounds Ground Hawks in Gritty Saturday Evening Win

INDIANAPOLIS— The UIndy men's basketball team made its way back into the win column with a 89-87 victory over Rockhurst in Nicoson Hall on Saturday.

The Hounds saw five double-digit scorers with Carmelo Harris leading the way recording 23 points while shooting 11-for-12 from the charity stripe.

INS & OUTS
The contest saw even scoring down to the wire. The Hawks had a single-point lead courtesy of a Drenin Dinkins three-pointer, but the Greyhounds quickly took the lead back with a three of their own from Harris with 2:30 left to play. Rockhurst tied the game at 77 with another three-ball. The Hounds started to pull away when Harris converted the four-point play with an and one from a made three-point basket to give his team a four-point lead.

Rockhurst narrowed the lead to two points with 12 seconds remaining, after Denkins sank three free throws following a foul on his three-point shot attempt.

Harris was sent to the line for the double bonus two more times, making all but his final shot from the line, but the Hawks could not get the last-second shot attempt off in time, securing the Greyhound win.

Freshman Ethan Edwards provided an offensive spark for the Greyhounds, shooting 6-for-8 from the field, including a big three-point basket after grabbing an offensive rebound to give UIndy momentum down the stretch.

Nate Dudukovich started the scoring in both the first and second halves, banging a corner three to give the Hounds the lead after a fire alarm forced both squads to evacuate the gymnasium, pushing back the second half by 20 minutes.
