TRIDELPHIA, W.Va. – The No. 15 UIndy softball continued its hot streak this weekend at the Highlands Classic, wrapping up its stay in West Virginia with two more victories. The Greyhounds moved to 10-0 on the early season, taking down in-region Findlay, 6-0, before walking off Indiana (Pa.), 4-3. The weekend's contests were held indoors at the Highlands Sports Complex in Tridelphia, W.Va.
Sophomore
Brooklyn Willis bookended the day with fantastic ABs. She started game one with a leadoff homer and ended the second game with a two-run, walk-off triple. In between, sophomore pitcher
Cheyenne Eads tossed a two-hitter versus Findlay, while freshman
Caitlin Bunte earned a complete-game win against IUP.
UP NEXT
UIndy has four more Midwest Region opponents on tap next weekend, starting with a battle versus Ferris State on Friday, February 27. The neutral-site games will be contested at the Oasis Sports Complex in Marion, Ill.  Â
GAME 1 |Â UIndy 6, Findlay 0
KEY PLAYS
After Willis opened the game with a solo shot, UIndy tacked on one in the third on an RBI single by
Christina Stankus.
The major offensive surge came in the fourth inning, however, where
Maya Rodriguez and
Sydney Oliver each singled before Willis added another knock to load the bases. Cooper then singled, and Eads followed with a two-run double, scoring Willis and Oliver. Stankus capped the inning with a two-RBI single. The Hounds maintained a commanding 6-0 lead the rest of the way.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
Eads (5-0) was lights-out in the circle versus the in-region Oilers, allowing just two hits and zero walks. She retired the first 16 batters she faced before the perfect game was broken up in the bottom of the sixth.
Eads added a double at the plate, driving in two runs. Cooper went 4-for-4 and scored twice, and Stankus collected three RBIs on two hits.
GAME 2 | UIndy 4, Indiana (PA) 3
KEY PLAYS
After a two-run single from
Josie Jager in the first gave the Hounds to lead, both teams struggled to generate any offense. Four scoreless innings passed until the Crimson Hawks managed to take a 3-2 in the top of the sixth.
Down to their final three outs, the Greyhounds answered the call in the bottom of the seventh.
Caitlin Bunte took one on the elbow to earn a free base, and a well-placed bunt by
Sydney Oliver forced an IUP error to put runners at the corners with no one out.
That set the stage for Willis, who attacked to first pitch she saw, driving it to right-center field for the game-winning triple.
PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
Bunte went the distance in the circle, allowing no runs outside of a rocky sixth frame. She fanned six and walked none in seven innings of work, moving to 5-0 on the year.
Willis recorded three base hits, while Jager contributed with two hits and two RBIs while also stealing a base.
