INDIANAPOLIS – On day two of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the UIndy women's tennis team was bested 4-2 to No. 4 Flagler. The Greyhounds now contend for seventh place in the draw.
After the Hounds stole a hard fought doubles point, the Saints responded in singles action, taking four of five matches.
INS AND OUTS
UIndy threw the first blow in doubles action, where Jimena De Pablos Hernando and Sofia Cardenas served a breadstick to Leah Waechter and Lea Jakic, winning 6-1 on court #3. The Hounds clinched the opening point with a win from Magda Kornijczuk and Maelys Thiery-James, who topped Eryka Kruk and Elena Ondobo 6-3 at #1 doubles.
The Saints found their equalizer in singles play from No. 25 Kruk, who took down Thiery-James 6-2, 6-2 at #1 singles. Moments later, the Hounds regained a 2-1 lead when Kornijczuk downed Jakic 6-4, 6-3 at #3 singles.
The Greyhound lead was short lived, as No. 36 Ondobo outlasted De Pablos Hernando in a second-set tiebreak 6-2, 7-6 shortly after.
The Saints then took two pivotal singles victories on court #5 and #6, beginning with Fairier out-gunning Zappoli 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 in a narrow third set. Balsera sealed the match for Flagler with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Simak.

The Hounds will play in the seventh place match at 10 AM this Sunday, taking on No. 3 West Georgia at the USTA Midwest Tennis Center.
