INDIANAPOLIS — In their first match against a Division II opponent of the season, the UIndy women's tennis team took down Walsh University 6-1. The Greyhounds improve to 1-1 in the young season, while the Cavaliers move to 2-2. 

After sweeping the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead, the Hounds found victories in five of the six singles matches. 

INS AND OUTS
The Hounds made their first impression in the doubles action on court #3, where Sofia Cardenas and Jimena De Pablos Hernando set the tone with a commanding 6-2 win over Liv-Grete Laarmann and Eliza Verstappen. Magda Kornijczuk and Maelys Thiery-James echoed that effort on court #1, topping Yaira Abildayeva and Olesia Ivashchuk 6-4. Liza Simak and Silvia Zappoli completed the sweep with a 7-5 win against Aleksandra Chmir and Lina Starke at #2 doubles. 

In singles, De Pablos Hernando extended the UIndy lead on court #3 to 2-0 with a straight-set win over Chmir, delivering a 6-4 win in the first set before finishing the second with a 6-0 bagel. Zappoli cushioned the lead to 3-0 after she triumphed over Ivashchuk at #4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-4. 

Walsh clawed back into the match on court #2,  where Starke outlasted Kornijczuk in a three-set comeback, winning 5-7, 6-2, 3-6. In response, Thiery-James clinched a tense victory at #1 singles, overcoming Abildayeva in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(3).

Cardenas continued the momentum at #5 singles, securing a 6-4, 6-1 win over Laarmann. Finally, Linya Chen wrapped up the afternoon with a strong 6-2, 6-2 victory against Jelena Duric at #6 singles.
