Hounds Up Win Streak With Home Sweep Versus Purdue Northwest

INDIANAPOLIS — Winners of 11 in a row, the No. 8-ranked UIndy softball team had an impressive doubleheader against in-region Purdue Northwest on Tuesday at Baumgartner Field, securing a commanding 11–3 victory in the first game and following it up with a 6–0 shutout in the second.

The Wednesday's scheduled doubleheader at Thomas More has been postponed due to a rainy forecast. The Greyhounds now return to GLVC play with a road trip to Truman State on Saturday, April 4.

GAME 1 | UIndy 11, PNW 3 (6 innings)
The Greyhounds sprang into action in the first inning, taking advantage of two Pride errors to rack up five runs. Brooklyn Willis, Cara Cooper, and others contributed to the early surge, with Christina Stankus and Sydney Oliver driving in unearned tallies. After the first, the Hounds led 5–0.

In the third, Shelby Cook's program-record-tying 15th career triple and Willis's two-run homer helped widen the gap, with UIndy leading 8–1 at the end of the third. PNW added two runs in the fifth, including a homer by Kylie Madura, but the Hounds countered with two of their own. Key hits from Willis and Emma Piercy kept Indianapolis ahead, making it 10–3 after five innings. In the sixth, Indianapolis walked it off as Oliver's single drove home Stankus to invoke the mercy rule.

Cheyenne Eads had a solid start in the circle, pitching a complete game over six innings for Indianapolis. She faced 26 batters, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out five and walking only one.

Willis shined offensively, scoring two runs, securing three hits, and driving in three runs, including two on her GLVC-leading 12th homer. Paige Vickery made her mark with two runs scored, two hits, and an RBI, also drawing a walk. Cook added two runs and a triple, complementing her two-hit performance with an RBI.

GAME 2 | UIndy 6, PNW 0
In game two, the Greyhounds continued their strong performance. Freshman Caitlin Bunte authored another stellar outing in the circle, pitching a complete-game shutout over seven innings. She allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out five batters in her fifth shutout of the season. 

With UIndy already up 2-0 in the third inning, Maya Rodriguez smashed a two-run homer to center field, bringing in Vickery and stretching the lead to 4–0. Cook kept the momentum going in the fourth inning with a solo home run, making it 5–0. In the sixth inning, Cook scored again on a double by Vickery after reaching on a throwing error, capping off the Greyhounds' scoring at 6–0. 

Vickery spearheaded the offense with three hits, including a double, and scored once while driving in one run. Rodriguez made significant contributions with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Cook added power to the lineup, tallying two hits, including a home run, while scoring twice and collecting one RBI.
