INDIANAPOLIS – In their first regular-season game at the UIndy Tennis Center, the No. 26 UIndy women's tennis team blanked Roosevelt 7-0. The Greyhounds improves to 4-5 on the year, while the Lakers fall to 6-4
After the Hounds stole the doubles point, the entire singles lineup was in peak form, not conceding a set all afternoon en route to their second consecutive sweep.
INS AND OUTS
Magda Kornijczuk and Maelys Thiery-James, recently ranked No. 37 in doubles, got the ball rolling with their 6-1 win over Luciana Trigossa and Ximena Mercado on court #1. UIndy clinched doubles with a win from Jimena De Pablos Hernando and Sofia Cardenas, who bested Malena Moya and Nathalie Ramazzini 6-4.
The Hounds ran up a quick 2-0 lead after De Pablos Hernando flattened Christie 6-1, 6-2 in her debut at #1 doubles in the lineup. No. 73 Kornijczuk posted the same result in her match at #3 singles against Zeynep Barut. Thiery-James poured on to the Greyhound lead at #2 singles, downing Trigossa 6-2, 6-1.
In the bottom half of the lineup, Cardenas served a breadstick and bagel to Malena Moya, winning 6-1, 6-0 at #6 singles. At #5 singles, Linya Chen had no trouble taking down Milena Novikova, posting a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Finally, Silvia Zappoli brought the brooms out against Ramazzini in #4 singles, completing the sweep with her 6-3, 6-3 win.
