Softball Keeps Rolling With Sunday Sweep

ST. LOUIS — The No. 4 UIndy softball team upped its win streak to 11 with a doubleheader sweep at Maryville University Sunday afternoon. The Greyhounds downed the host Saints with a 4-2 win in game one and an 8-0 shutout in the capper.

The Greyhounds close the regular season with six straight home games, starting with a "Back The Pack" twin bill versus McKendree on Saturday, April 25 at noon.

GAME 1 | UIndy 4, Maryville 2
Two errors and a wild pitch plagued the home team in what turned into a three-run second inning for the Hounds. Brooklyn Willis provided the pop, as her two-out double plated Paige Vickery and Sydney Oliver to highlight to rally.

The Saint answered with a leadoff double in the bottom of the second, followed immediately by a home run. Starter Cheyenne Eads decided enough is enough at that point, retiring the final 18 Maryville batters in order to earn the win. She finished with six Ks and zero walks to move to 23-2 on the year.

Emma Piercy chipped in two RBIs, Oliver scored twice and stole a base, and Eads increased her DII-leading hit by pitch total to 29.

GAME 2 | UIndy 8, Maryville 0 (6 innings)
Rookie sensation Caitlin Bunte (23-1) pitched her seventh complete game shutout of the year, allowing only three hits and striking out six. She has now pitched 30 2/3 consecutive innings without issuing a walk.

Offensively, UIndy's 4-5-6 hitters Shelby Cook, Josie Jager and Maya Rodriguez combined for nine hits and six ribbies. Jager broke a scoreless tie in the thrid with a two-run double, Rodriguez added a pair of RBI singles, and Cook crossed the plate twice.
