PERU, Ind. – The UIndy women's golf team capped a successful week at Rock Hollow Golf Club, with
Ava Ray highlighting the weekend with the Greyhounds' fifth consecutive individual stroke play title, as well as the Greyhounds claiming second place in a back-and-forth match play Sunday against UMSL.
Ray becomes the 13th Greyhound in program history to capture the individual title after shooting a 3-under-par (213), and was the only player under par for the entire field. Both
Paige Giovenco and
Macey Brown both finished on the GLVC All-Tournament team, with Giovenco finishing second, and Brown finishing in a tie for fifth.
SUNDAY (MATCH PLAY)
The Hounds cruised to a 4 -1 win over Lewis in the morning semifinal,
Caroline Whallon (+5) secured the first full point for UIndy, which was then backed up by Ray and Giovenco who dominated their matches, winning by nine strokes each.
Abby Stone earned the most convincing point of the morning matches, winning by 12 strokes, and cementing UIndy's spot in the championship match against UMSL.
In the first finals match up, Whallon made a late charge down five strokes with five holes to play, and was able to claw her way back to only one down headed to the 18th. UMSL's Emely Wahl was able to get up and down for par, along with Whallon, ending match one in a full point for UMSL.
In match number two, Brown made a strong move on the front nine to go up three strokes headed to the back nine, but similar to the opening finals match, the lead slowly dwindled and came down to the final hole. UMSL's Hillary Currier was able to manage a par while Brown ended up with a triple bogey, which gave UMSL its second point of the day.
The Greyhounds were able to respond with two points of their own in the next two matches with Ray and Giovenco. Giovenco continued her impressive run of form on Sunday winning by eight strokes, shooting a -2 (70) that was comprised of four birdies, while Ray earned the match tying point with a three-up win over Wilma Zanderau.
The championship match came down the final pairing, Stone and Mayan Covarrubias, and neither girl held more than a two stroke lead at any point in the match. Covarrubias and Stone were tied headed to the 17th hole, Stone made a bogey on the par-4 while Covarruibias made par to give herself the one-up lead. Both ladies got up and down from tricky lies around the green, giving themselves both 10 foot par putts. Stone made hers, putting the pressure on Covarrubias and she capitalized with the championship winning putt for the Tritons on the final hole of the this weekend's competition.
FRIDAY & SATURDAY (STROKE PLAY)
Ava Ray began the GLVC Championships with her best performance of the weekend, shooting a -4 (68) in her first round, which marked the best round of the weekend by any player in the event. She then backed her 68 up with another under par round -1 (71) in the second round giving her a five shot lead heading into the final round of stroke play. She capped the stroke play event with a +2 (74) on a tough day for scoring, but was able to extend her lead to seven shots over fellow teammate,
Paige Giovenco.

Joining Ray at the GLVC All-Tournament Team was Giovenco who finished second, while
Macey Brown's 74-76-77 three round score was good enough to vault her into a tie for fifth place. Giovenco continued to showcase why she was so highly touted as a freshman, earning her ninth top-20 and her third second place finish of the 2025-26 season, and along with a solo second finish she also earned herself
GLVC Freshman of the Year honors.
