FRANKLIN, Ind. — The UIndy baseball fell to Illinois Springfield on Friday night, 4-1, in a game that was moved to Franklin Central High School due to weather. The Greyhounds managed seven hits, while Illinois Springfield secured the victory with a three-run first inning and a total of 10 hits.
Aidan Pearson pitched five innings for the Greyhounds, allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out three.
Griffin Hallahan relieved for the final four innings, giving up one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts.
INS & OUTS
The Greyhounds faced Illinois Springfield in a game that saw the visitors jump to an early lead. In the top of the first, Illinois Springfield scored three runs. Tommy Atkinson singled and came around on Kody Morton's sacrifice fly. Later, Brian Daker's single through the left side brought in two more runs, putting Illinois Springfield ahead 3-0 after one inning.
The Greyhounds managed to break through in the sixth inning when
Joey Humphrey singled up the middle and later scored on
Austin Bode's RBI single, cutting the deficit to 3-1 through six innings.
Illinois Springfield extended its lead in the eighth inning. A single by Noah Caceres and a subsequent RBI single by Jesse Contreras increased the margin to 4-1.
Despite the Greyhounds' efforts, including a single by
Ryan Degroot in the ninth inning, they were unable to close the gap. The game concluded with Illinois Springfield securing a 4-1 victory over the Greyhounds.
