GREENWOOD, IN – In the opening round of the NCAA Midwest Regional, the No. 13 UIndy men's tennis team swept No. 50 Findlay 4-0, securing a spot in the sub-regional final.
This is the fifth sweep in a row for the Greyhounds, who have extended their win streak to 11 matches with today's win. They will face No. 34 Grand Valley in tomorrow's sub-regional final, for a chance to punch their ticket to NCAA DII Championship.
INS AND OUTS
The Hounds were on the board first in doubles play after Asier Ayllon Prado and Mathieu Derache, the No. 47 doubles team per the ITA, downed Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins 6-2 on court #1.
The Oilers quickly punched back at #2 doubles, with Soh Kuyama and Matthis Veniard dropping Zaid Shelbaya and Tadeo Gaggiofatto 6-4.
The opening point came down to court #3, where Lorenzo Di Cursi and Jovan Matovic put UIndy on the board first with a 6-3 win over Aleksander Ivancevic and Nicolo Lippolis.
Gaggiofatto wasted no time cementing the first result for UIndy, breezing past Kuyama 6-0, 6-2 at #2 singles.
The Hounds then gained a 3-0 lead after Derache overpowered Runa Kagoshima 6-4, 6-3 on court #3.
Moments later, Di Cursi sealed the match for UIndy on court #6, posting a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lippolis.

The Hounds will square off against the Lakers in the sub-regional final tomorrow, May 11 at 10 AM, where both teams return to Center Grove High School vying to make the field of 16 at Nationals.
