Softball Wraps Up Regular Season With Senior Day, Doubleheader Sweep

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 2 UIndy softball team capped an historic regular season with a successful Senior Day at Baumgartner Field Sunday. The Greyhounds honored seniors Shelby Cook and Ella Palm before twice run-ruling Lewis University by scores of 11-2 and 10-1.

The red-hot Greyhounds finished the regular season on a 17-game winning streak and an incredible 27-1 conference record, earning the GLVC's regular season crown and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The 53 total wins are the most-ever for the Greyhounds entering the postseason, while the team's .964 win percentage in conference play also set a school record.

The day featured some individual history as well. Sophomore Brooklyn Willis hit her 18th home run of the season on the very first Flyer pitch of the day, tying the program's single-season mark. In game two, the Shirley, Ind., native scored her third run of the afternoon, making it 67 for the year to reset the school's run scored record.

The 2026 GLVC Championship Tournament is on tap for the Hounds, schedule for May 6-9 in East Peoria Ill. Stay tuned to UIndyAthletics.com as more information—including the complete bracket—is released from the league office.

GAME 1 | UIndy 11, Lewis 2 (5 innings)
Willis got the Hounds on the board as quickly as humanly possible. In the bottom of the first, the Hounds' leadoff hitter deposited the first pitch she saw over the center field fence to stake UIndy to an early lead. The record-tying blast marked the sixth time this season she led off the game with a homer.

Things snowballed from there for the visiting Flyers, as the Greyhounds racked up eight runs in the bottom of the second to all but put the game away. Cara Cooper (double) and Sydney Oliver (triple) highlighted the surge with two-RBI knocks. By game's end, all nine starting position players scored a run while all registered at least a hit, a walk or a hit by pitch.

In the circle, Cheyenne Eads notched win No. 26. She took a no-hitter into the fourth before Lewis sophomore Morgan Spodarek managed a two-run home run—the only damage taken by Eads on the day.

Cooper finished 3-for-3 with three ribbies at the dish. Eads upped her DII-leading hit by pitch total to 34, while Cook and Josie Jager worked a pair of walks apiece.

GAME 2 | UIndy 10, Lewis 1 (5 innings)
The Hounds once again needed just five innings to earn the "W". They got things rolling with a two-out rally in the second. Cooper (HBP), Eads (walk) and Jager (single) all reached base with two outs, with Jager's knock plating two runs.

Willis drove in two more with a single in the third before the Hounds pulled away with five tallies in the fifth. The final run belonged to Willis, good for her record-breaking 67th of the season.

Freshman Caitlin Bunte excelled in the circle and at the plate. The Quincy, Ill., product tossed 4 1/3 frames, giving up just three hits and zero walks, and also added a two-run home run with the bat. Sophomore pitcher Hailey Thompson finished the game, fanning the only two batters she faced.

Willis tacked on three more hits to her productive day. Eads had two singles, two walks, and three RBIs; and Cook had a pair of hits and scored three times.
