FINDLAY, OH – In the preliminary round of the DII NCAA Women's Tennis Championship, the UIndy women's tennis team came up short against No. 14 Findlay, falling 3-4. The Greyhounds conclude the season with an 11-12 record.
After dropping a tightly contested doubles point, UIndy couldn't find enough in singles action.
INS AND OUTS
The Hounds and Oilers traded blows on courts #1 and #2 to open doubles play. Magda Kornijczuk and Silvia Zappoli pulled a huge 6-2 win over Anamarija Kovacevic and Audrey Ouellet, the No. 18 doubles pairing by the ITA. On court #2, Maelys Thiery-James and Liza Simak couldn't pace Ivanova Lucero and Maria Rivero, falling 6-2.
Doubles came down to court #3, where Sofia Cardenas and Jimena De Pablos Hernando fell short to Polina Zaytseva and Maria Batinic, losing 3-6.
The Oilers used momentum from doubles play to make the first impression in singles, where Rivero downed Kornijczuk 6-2, 6-1 on court #3.
But UIndy had a quick response at #4 singles, where Simak put UIndy on the board with an easy 6-2, 6-1 win over Zaytseva.
UIndy then leveled the match at 2-2 after gathering a win at #5 singles, as Zappoli outlasted Ouellet 6-4, 6-4.
Findlay found the lead once again after Kovacevic powered through Thiery-James in the third set, posting a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 win at #1 singles.
With their backs against the wall, UIndy knotted the match a 3-3 after Cardenas took a gritty 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory on court #6.
The match came down to court #3 where De Pablos Hernando and Batinic fought to clinch. After Batinic took the first set 6-4, De Pablos Hernando wrote back with a 6-3 second set. Ultimately, Batinic has the response in the third, winning 6-1 to clinch a 4-3 win for Findlay.
The Greyhounds wrap the 2026 campaign with an 11-10 record against Division II opponents.
