Conference Championships

CONFERENCE AFFILIATION HISTORY
Throughout its rich history of intercollegiate athletics, the University of Indianapolis has been a member of a number of athletic conferences. Known as Indiana Central until 1985, the institution was a highly successful member of the Hoosier College Conference (HCC) from the 1940s through 1970. With its move to the NCAA from the NAIA, the university participated in the Indiana Collegiate Conference (ICC) from 1971-1978 and later the Heartland Collegiate Conference (HCC) from 1979-83. With the exception of football, most Greyhound teams moved to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) when it was formed in 1978, becoming a charter member in the new league. Since its inception, many GLVC teams and individual athletes have enjoyed outstanding success at the national level in NCAA Division II.

Greyhound football teams remained in the Heartland Collegiate Conference from 1978 until 1990 when UIndy became a charter member of the Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference (MIFC). Formed as a football-only conference, the MIFC incorporated teams from the HCC and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). In 1999, the MIFC merged as part of the GLIAC and Indianapolis became an associate member as a football-only school through the 2011 season. The GLVC began sponsoring football in 2012, prompting the UIndy football team's latest conference move.

In 2000, UIndy men’s and women’s swimming and diving left the independent ranks and gained a conference affiliation when both teams joined the GLIAC as associate members. The swimming teams moved to the GLVC in 2013-14 when the league began sponsoring sport for the first time.

The spring of 2016 brought the inaugural seasons for UIndy men's and women's lacrosse. The men started in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), played season No. 2 as an independent before moving to the GLVC in year three. The women played in the GLIAC for the first three seasons before moving the the GLVC in 2020.

After competing as an independent for years, the UIndy wrestling team joined the GLVC in 2017-18, the first year the league sponsored the sport.
