Mark Walther is entering his third season with the Greyhounds and is coming off his first year as the team's pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to that, he served as an Assistant Coach where he worked with outfielders and pitchers along with former pitching coach Jordan Tiegs. Walther began his career coaching at Parkland College (NJCAA) in 2012-2013, where he was an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Walther worked primarily with outfielders while assisting with pitchers, headed the recruiting efforts and coordinated all camps. Â
Walther, a graduate of Herscher High School (Illinois), where he lettered in basketball and baseball for the Tigers. After high school, Walther attended Parkland College and was a relief pitcher for the Cobras during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In his freshman season, he led the team in appearances and earned run average out of the bullpen. In 2009, Walther was the team leader in saves as the Cobras went on to win the 2009 NJCAA National Championship.
After Parkland, Walther transferred to fellow GLVC-member Southern Indiana, where he was a relief pitcher. In his first season with the Screaming Eagles, Walther played a big role in capturing USI’s first NCAA DII National Championship as he led the bullpen in appearances.
