Kathy Casey is in her 13th season as head men's and women's cross country coach at her alma mater.
Last season, the UIndy women racked-up five top-five finishes, including a third-place effort at the GLVC Championship and a fifth-place showing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. LeAnn Sarka and Ashley Clifford each garnered top-twenty finishes at the NCAAs by placing 14th and 19th, respectively. Sarka also earned all-conference honors for Coach Casey.
The men's squad also earned an NCAA berth, finishing 16th in the regional. Another season highlight came at the Loyola Invite when the men placed fifth out of 27 cross teams. Sophomore harrier Adam Settle garnered the top time in each of the Greyhounds' meets, including a 10th place finish at the GLVCs to earn all-conference accolades.
Off the course, a total of 17 runners earned Academic All-GLVC honors. Among them was senior Amanda Loney, who was also named to the ESPN the Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America College Division Track and Field Academic All-District 5 Second Team. Loney, a Winchester, Ind. native, graduated from UIndy with a degree in physical therapy with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
In the '05 season, the men's team took fourth at the GLVC Championships behind Brad Robinson (8th) and Adam Settle (12th) each finishing in the top 12.
The Greyhound women were also fourth, as Karen Bower paced the Hounds with a third place finish overall. Rachel Kriese also picked-up a top ten placing, finishing in eighth place individually.
Her student-athletes were recognized outside of competition as well. Ron Frederick was UIndy's Male "Angus Nicoson Something Extra" Award winner. Lyndsey Weller was the women's cross country recipient.
