Former UIndy men's basketball student-athlete Adam Martin has returned to his alma mater to join the coaching staff of the Greyhounds.

In his first season (2011-12), he helped lead the Greyhounds to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and first NCAA Tournament victory since 1996. UIndy also won 20 games (20-9) for the first time since 2003-04, while being ranked in the NABC Division II Top 25 for five weeks during the season. The Greyhounds defeated the nation's top team twice with a 99-94 overtime home win vs. No. 1 Bellarmine and 80-77 road win at No. 1 Kentucky Wesleyan. Overall, UIndy won five games against Top 25 teams, including a 4-2 mark against top 10 teams.

Martin has been an assistant coach at Franklin (Ind.) for the past two seasons after spending the previous season (2008-09) at Culver Military Academy (Ind.) instructing basketball and strength and conditioning classes.

During the 2010-11 season, Martin helped junior center Will Conoley make the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Second Team. He was third in the league in scoring average at 16.0 points per game, seventh in field goal percentage (56.1) and third in blocked shots at 1.24 in 25 overall contests. Sophomore forward Gunner Erwin was included on the nine-member Honorable Mention list. Erwin was ninth in scoring average at 12.8 ppg., and was fourth in rebounds at 6.5 per game.

Conoley and Erwin both were named All-HCAC Honorable Mention during the 2009-10 season in Martin's first season at Franklin, along with sophomore guard Clayton Starrett and sophomore forward Zach Merschbrock. Conoley was third in the league with 15.5 points per game and Erwin averaged 11.3 per. Erwin also led the league in three-point shooting (.484) and Conoley was third in blocked shots per game (1.29). Starrett was second in the league in free throw shooting (.864) and fourth in assists (3.39), while Merschbrock was fourth in field goal percentage (.558) and sixth in rebounding (6.6).

Martin, a native of Bloomington, Ind., graduated from Bloomington South. He then went on to play at the University of Indianapolis, graduating in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. Martin played in 27 games for the Greyhounds in 2004-05 (UIndy advanced to the NCAA Tournament) and 2005-06.
