Dionte Ferguson joined the University of Indianapolis men's basketball coaching staff in June 2022.
The Greyhounds returned to the national spotlight in Ferguson's first season, as the program reached as high as No. 4 in the NABC national poll. UIndy hosted its first NCAA DII Midwest Regional since 1997 as the top seed, while the Greyhounds matched program records in total wins (26) and winning streak (18). In addition, the team won its first GLVC regular season title since 1997.
Ferguson came to the Circle City after two years at Tusculum of the South Atlantic Conference. He helped guide the Pioneers to a 19-win season and and a trip to the SAC postseason tournament following a 14-6 campaign and appearance in the NCAA Southeast Regional semifinals. Prior to Tusculum, Ferguson served as the graduate assistant at NCAA Division I Morehead State.
The Prattville, Alabama native played collegiately at Morehead State from 2010-2012 where he was a part of the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Championship team. In Ferguson's two seasons with Eagles, he helped accumulate more than 40 wins, one OVC championship, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament that included a monumental upset win over fourth-seeded Louisville as MSU advanced to the round of 32.
Ferguson then transferred to South Alabama at the end the 2011-12 campaign. He spent three years with the Jaguars, playing for head coach Matthew Graves. He was named to the 2015 All-Sun Belt Conference third team where he also served as team captain.
After his collegiate career, Ferguson spent more than two years playing overseas in Spain and the Philippines. In 2016, he was named to the All-EBA League second team while playing for Fundacion Lucentum, Agustinos Eras in Spain and was named the 2017 recipient of the MCBL Best Import Award with FEU-NRMF in the Philippines.
During his prep career at Prattville High School, he earned 6A All-State accolades as he recorded 24 double-doubles averaging 16.5 points and 14.1 rebounds per game during his senior season. He was the 5A-6A All-Metro Player of the Year.
Ferguson earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Sport Management from South Alabama in 2015 and completed his Masters of Arts degree in Sport Management from Morehead State in 2020.
