John Nunnelley

John Nunnelley begins his second season at UIndy with the Men and Women’s swimming and diving program in 2024-25.

Prior to coming to UIndy he served as Interim head coach at Chowan University for the majority of the 2022-2023 season. During the 2022-2023 the Chowan Hawks would break over a dozen records, have the first NCAA “B” cuts in the men's program with three different swimmers, four individual All-Conference selections, and have 11 top 3 finishes at the Conference Carolinas Championship.

Before his time at Chowan, John served as the head coach at Seabreeze High School in Dayton Beach Florida for two seasons and one as assistant coach. During John’s three years coaching the sandcrabs, the team would grow to over 50 swimmers, go from no state qualifiers, to 5 and win the first district championship on the boys side in over two decades at Seabreeze in his third season. He was also working as a teacher at Seabreeze and coached for local USA swimming clubs during this time.

A Daytona Beach native, he grew up swimming for Daytona Beach Speed, the former USA swim club run by Ryan Lochte’s father and sister. John would go on to swim for Florida Tech for the 2012-2013 season, then transferred and graduated from Auburn University in 2016 with a degree in Sociology.
