Leopold Gomez Islinger joined the UIndy tennis staff as a Graduate Assistant Coach in 2017-18.
Before joining the Hounds, Leopold competed as a student-athlete at Division I University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He led the team to two Horizon League Championships in four years, earning two NCAA Tournament berths. Mainly playing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Leopold finished his college career with 86 singles wins, including a 20-2 record sophomore year. As a senior, he was ranked No. 12 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Midwest regional singles ranking.
Leopold received three Horizon League first team awards and four Player of the Week awards. He was also named to the All-Horizon Academic first team for three consecutive years.
Additionally, Leopold competed as high as the second league is his home country of Germany and was ranked top 200 in the men’s open ranking.
After graduating from the Wisconsin-Green Bay, Leopold helped out the men’s and women’s tennis team at Green Bay as a volunteer assistant coach while working as a finance intern at the athletic department in Green Bay.
As a collegiate student-athlete, Leopold studied Business Administration with emphases in Management and minoring in Math and graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He was a member of the Student Finance Association and Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society in Business.
A native from Weiden, Germany, Leopold is pursuing a Master’s degree in Sport Management at UIndy. His sister Marlene runs cross country for Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
