Matt Royer

UIndy alum and former All-American Matt Royer has helped shaped the UIndy throws program into one of the best in the country. After spending four seasons volunteering his time on the UIndy staff under former mentor Randy Ziraldo, Royer joined the UIndy staff full-time in 2016-17. Sine that time, he has guided UIndy student-athletes to a combined 14 All-America performances, including a 2024 indoor national championship by Zoe Pentecost in the weight throw.

Royer compiled an impressive resume as a student-athlete for the Hounds. The Avon, Ind., native is a five-time GLVC champion, a four-time national qualifier, a three-time All-American and a two-time national runner-up. Royer ranks in the top 10 in school history weight throw, hammer throw and shot put. His career-best mark of 21.54m in the weight throw is good for the UIndy record, while his hammer throw PR of 67.15m is good for the GLVC record.

Before coming to UIndy, Royer was a four-time NJCAA All-American at Harper College in Illinois, helping the school to back-to-back junior college national championships. He is also the school's record holder in the hammer throw.

In addition, one of Royer's biggest accomplishments came away from NCAA competition when he qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trails in the hammer.
