Ben Ferrell joined the UIndy softball staff in the fall of 2019 after spending the previous three years as the Graduate Assistant and Director of Baseball Operations at Indiana State University. In his time at ISU, he helped the Sycamores capture their first-ever outright Missouri Valley Conference championship as well as their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1995.
During his first five seasons in the Circle City, Ferrell helped the Greyhounds to a 221-40 (.847) mark, including a stellar 95-10 (.905) record in GLVC play. UIndy has won three conference regular season titles in his time, adding a conference tournament crown in '21. The Hounds added a Midwest Region crown and World Series appearance in 2024, capping a program-record 60-win campaign.
UIndy garnered Midwest Coaching Staff of the Year accolades from the NFCA in both 2021 and '24 and tacking on an NCAA DII Super Regional appearance in '23.
Prior to UIndy, Ferrell coached some of the biggest names to come out of Indiana State, including Major League starting pitcher Sean Manaea (drafted in the 1st round), Jeff Degano (2nd round), Dakota Bacus (9th round), Jeremy Lucas (9th round) and Colin Rea (12th round), among others.
As a student-athlete, Ferrell played two seasons at Hutchinson Community College before transferring to ISU. He was a two-time all-conference shortstop -- one at HCC and one at ISU. After finishing his collegiate career, Ferrell played one season of professional baseball with the Joilet Slammers of the Frontier League.
Ferrell and his wife, Kacy, reside in Greenwood.
