Graduate Assistant and former UIndy catcher Cori Eckerle begins for second season on the Greyhound staff in 2016.
Last season, Eckerle helped the Hounds to their second-ever Midwest Regional title and a trip to the NCAA Division II Championship. After an appearance in the GLVC Tournament final, the Greyhounds swept through the Midwest Regional 2 and overcame a 0-1 deficit in the best-of-three Super Regional to punch their championship ticket.
Behind a no-hitter from All-America pitcher (and Eckerle's former battery-mate) Morgan Foley, the Hounds took the opening game of the “World Series” by besting eventual-national-champ North Georgia, 1-0, before dropping the next two decisions and finish 48-15 on the year.
Eckerle and her fellow UIndy coaches added 2016 NFCA Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year to their resumes.
As a student-athlete, Eckerle was a four-year starter at catcher, helping the Hounds to a stellar 184-44 record in her four years. The Jasper, Ind., native was three times voted to the All-GLVC Team as well as being dubbed the 2011 GLVC Freshman of the Year. She finished her career ranked highly in the UIndy career annals in a number of statistical categories, including walks (3rd, 97), home runs (6th,18), runs batted in (11th, 84) and runs scored (13th, 94).
