Coach Elysse Petrie

Elysse Petrie

Former Centre College student-athlete Elyse Petrie joined the UIndy coaching staff in August of 2019. The Danville, Ky., native helps with all facets of the softball program, including providing coaching and administrative assistance to the head coach, assisting with scouting and recruiting of student-athletes, helping conduct daily practices for the team and assisting with team travel arrangements.

Her primary responsibility, however, is working with the pitching staff. A former college pitcher herself, Petrie helped the UIndy hurlers garner a number of postseason accolades in 2021, with senior Hallie Waters being named the GLVC and Midwest Pitcher of the Year and rookie Kenzee Smith voted the NFCA DII Freshman of the Year and as well as a finalist for the NFCA DII Pitcher of the Year award.

Overall, the 2021 Greyhounds were consistently ranked in the top 10 in the DII coaches poll and went on to finish with a 46-8 record, a GLVC championship and an appearance in the NCAA DII Midwest Region final.

As a student-athlete, Petrie helped lead Centre to a school-record 24 wins as a senior in 2017. She pitched a pair of complete game shutouts against Birmingham Southern College, including one in an elimination game at the 2017 Southern Athletic Association Championship Tournament. She was also a two-time All-SAA performer and SAA Academic Honor Roll member.
