Dr. Richard Jowers

Dr. Richard Jowers enters his first season as an Assistant Coach with the University of Indianapolis women's basketball program in 2022-23. 
 
Before entering his role at UIndy, Jowers spent the 2021-2022 season at Rust College where he helped guide the Lady Bearcats to the round of 32 in the NAIA national championships. With the help of his coaching, the team claimed the conference regular season and tournament championships. Jowers helped coach Shay Johnson and Katie Blackmon to All-GCAC First Team honors while also assisting Jasmine Coleman to a Defensive Player of the Year award and All-Defensive Team honors. Johnson went on to be selected as a second team All-American. With his help, Rust led the NAIA in rebound margin at 14.3 and limited opponents to 49.4 points per game, which ranked first in the country. 
 
Prior to his stint at Rust, Jowers served as an Assistant Coach at Stillman College during the 2019-21 seasons. His duties included managing all social media, photography, and analytics. He also helped with practice, recruiting, workouts, and conditioning. During his time at Stillman, the team had several team members hold All-SSAC and All-Academic accolades.
 
During the 2018-19 season, Jowers served as a volunteer graduate assistant at the University of Alabama. During this time, he oversaw analytics, practice stats, and tracking passing for the team. 
 
Jowers served as the head coach at Huguenot high school in Richmond, Virginia during the 2017-18 season. Competing in a conference that had accumulated seven state championships in the last four years, the team managed to put together multiple wins against 6A opponents as a 4A team. As the 10th seed in the playoffs, the Falcons managed to defeat the higher seed and advance in the playoffs. In May of 2017, Jowers was selected and completed the Marine Corps Coaches Leadership Workshop at Marine Base Quantico in Quantico, VA.
 
In 2016-17, Jowers was the head coach at Mount Zion Christian Academy. He was in charge of all basketball operations and helped turn a 1-17 team into a 25-6 team. The Lady Warriors went undefeated in the conference tournament and won the CAASC State Championship. The team managed three All-State players and four All-Conference players. Jowers received Coach of the Year in the conference and in the state. 
 
Prior to his success at Mount Zion Christian Academy, Jowers was at Carrboro High School during the 2015-2016 season. He served as the associate head coach and assisted in creating and implementing different offensive and defensive system strategies. He also managed all video and recording processes. During his time at CHS, he helped the team double its wins from the previous season and attend the state playoffs. Jowers helped the team achieve three All-Conference players and accomplished the feat of having a player of the week in all of North Carolina.
 
During the 2014-15 seasons, Jowers served as an assistant coach at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School in Raleigh, NC. Jowers was responsible for scouting, advanced analytics, statistics, player development, injury prevention, and strength and conditioning. He helped lead the team to the state championship while having 2 All-State, All-District, McDonald All-American, and State-East-West, North-South recipients. Ten players on this team all attended college and played basketball.
 
Before his role at Southeast Raleigh Magnet, Jowers served as the assistant coach for both the boys and girls teams at Hillside High School (2013-14). He assisted with practices and was in charge of all video, analytics, and statistics. Jowers helped student-athletes achieve All-Conference All-Academics. Both teams made the playoffs and both teams had college athletes. The boys team made it to the second round, and the girls team made it to the Regional Finals. Nine players played collegiate sports.
 
Jowers also served as the head coach at Research Triangle High School, a first-year school during the 2012-13 season. Jowers coached both the boys and girls basketball teams and helped the team field their first win playing at the varsity level as 9th graders.
 
Jowers has been a part of the coaching staff at the grassroots level with the Adidas Carolina All-Stars Club Basketball Team and the Carolina Flames Nike EYBL basketball team. He has worked at serval basketball camps, including ECU men and women and Alabama women. He has attended numerous coaching clinics, including Head Coaching Training Center, KTS, Moving Up, Nike, USA, Heather Macy, Dawn Staley, NCHSAA, USAB, etc.
 
Jowers has also coached basketball at Northeastern High School and Pasquotank Elementary School. Jowers has a strong football background playing and coaching at the high school and collegiate levels, including stints at Division II Elizabeth City as the volunteer video coordinator (2010-12), helping the team make it to the CIAA championship. At Northeastern high school, the team made it to the 2A State Championship.
 
Born in Newport News, VA, Jowers was prep All-Conference in basketball and football from his sophomore year on in both sports.  He graduated from Elizabeth City State University and lettered on the football team. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi. Jowers holds a doctorate degree from the University of Alabama and his masters from East Carolina University.
