Former Purdue diving coach Jim Mountjoy returns to UIndy for his second stint beginning with the 2013-14 season.

Mountjoy spent seven seasons (1994-01) as the diving coach at Purdue. Mountjoy had five Big Ten finalists and six NCAA Diving Zone qualifiers. At the 1999 Big Ten Championships, he coached Kara Hajek to a sixth place finish on the one-meter board and ninth on both the three-meter board and platform.

At the 1997 Big Ten Championships he led Brandon Gustafson to a sixth place finish on the platform for Purdue’s first platform finalist since John Vogel in the sixties.

He came to Purdue following one year as head diving and assistant swimming coach at the University of Indianapolis, where he coached three national qualifiers and two NCAA Division II finalists in Joy Anderson and Sara Wallace.

After attending Purdue in 1985-86 and diving for the Boilermakers, Mountjoy transferred to UIndy for the 1986-87 school year.

Mountjoy joined the Navy in 1987 and was an electronics technician and naval rescue swimmer. During this time, he also dove and coached several clubs throughout the United States.

He served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm before returning to Indianapolis in August of 1993.

Prior to joining a collegiate program, Mountjoy was a swimming and diving instructor at Beech Grove (Ind.) High School during the summers of 1982 through 1985. In 1986, he was the girl’s diving coach at Beech Grove.

Jim received his degree in computer graphics technology from Purdue.
