Justin Shields is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Greyhounds after a four-year swimming career (2006-10) at fellow GLIAC-institution Wayne State.
Shields was a nine-time All-American swimming in relays as a freestyler for the Warriors. He earned All-American honors at the 2010 NCAA Championships in the 800 free relay (T-4th), 200 medley relay (5th), 400 free relay (7th) and 200 free relay (8th). Shields also contributed to the Warriors winning GLIAC championships in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays and 400 medley relay. He previously won GLIAC championships in 2009 in the 400 and 800 free relays.
He earned All-American honors in 2009 in the 200 (4th), 400 (4th) and 800 (3rd) free relays and swam the anchor leg of the second-place 800 free relay and fourth in the 400 free relay at the 2008 NCAA Championships.
Shields was a three-time Academic All-GLIAC honoree who graduated from Wayne State in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
